PK Guidelines

This file is specific to guidance regarding the actions of Player Killing (PK). Player killing is a large part of the game; however, like the rest of the game has rules which form a balance to keep the game healthy. This help file will include some guides for examples of valid PK reasons, aggressive PK timelines, punishments for violating specific terms, collateral damage, and IC interactions.

1) What is PK?

PK is an acronym formed for the mud for PLAYER KILLING. When players decide to set PK, they agree to the terms of aggressive role-play plots that occur IN-CHARACTER (IC). Many help files are available to the player base to help define the do's and don'ts. PK, PK RULES, PK TOPICS, PK MECHANICS. It is a MUST to view these files before being set as a loner or joining a clan.

2) PK Timelines

A Pk timeline is the active time an aggressive RP line lasts without any IC activity within a year in character. For OOC reference, this is 20 days. If an RP becomes inactive for 20 days, that RP is now considered COMPLETE; no further actions may be pursued.

3) Collateral Damage

The game has a specific clause known as collateral damage regarding PK. This rare occurrence happens whenever a player falls victim to a PK for reasons caused by their actions. Another way to look at collateral damage is any incidental damage to an activity.

Example: Player A enters a zone while Player B is exploring the exact location. As a result, Player A becomes a victim of Player B's area or frenzy attack.

4) IC Interactions

IC interactions are considered communication that occurs in character. This type of communication is entirely different than OOC communication. Help “CHANNELS” is an active help file that clearly explains what communication channels are IC and OOC. In character, contact means the IC channels are relevant against a player in terms of PK. Out-of-character reference is irrelevant and CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT be used for in-character actions. For players that are DISABLED, refer to Help Disable. IC communication does not stop because you have a player disabled. If you participate against someone who you have disabled IC, then be prepared for IC interactions. However, a player who is disabled CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT provoke someone who they knowingly know has them disabled.

In-game player bounties fall under this category. Players can purchase a bounty in the game if they believe they have “been wronged” IC. But beware! Even if you buy the bounty as cleared by the mayor, the player can still buy a new one if they have the means. With proper reasoning, this is not considered harassment. However, there is a line of harassment if the player buys a bounty continuously without reason.

Player-generated bounties are a type of bounty that falls under this category. This bounty becomes provided to an entity through the world note system. Typically, this type will come to a close if the originator calls it complete or becomes deceased. However, there are ways for this type of bounty to continue even after the originator parishes. For example, the originator may communicate to other players in character to carry on their legacy if they die.

Blanket bounties are another form of player-generated bounties which target a vast group of individuals. However, this type of bounty comes with a steep price as, most of the time, and the target is usually a RELIGION or even a CONTINENT. Therefore, players should beware if they attempt this line of RP, as IMMORTALS will likely defend their religion or continent. In addition, some Immortal reactions can lead to maiming or even death.

5) Good Sportsmanship

Players should always remain on friendly terms with other players' OOC. This is always encouraged to promote a healthy habitat for PK. The PK staff monitors this type of interaction and usually rewards players. The team themes this type of award, so do not ask for or expect something specific. We encourage players to roleplay their created character how it is designed but do not expect it to be held against them by other players on an OOC level. If there is an issue with how a player roleplays, bring it up to a staff member. More help for Good Sportsmanship can he found in help Sportsmanship.

Notice: No matter what reason a player is PK for, a player still must write the proper notes, even if the PK falls under collateral damage.
