Gnomes

The Gnomes are very short with an average height of three to three and a half feet. They resemble humans to a certain degree but are somewhat chubbier and sturdier. They have a darkbrown skin and grey or white hair. Whereas male gnomes often wear beards i n all fashions, female gnomes have a hairless face. Their eyes come in all colours and shades. One of their most remarkable features are the large ears which are often slightly pointed.

Gnomes are a good-natured people and fond of company. They like to talk and listen, all accompanied by lots of gesticulation. Most of them enjoy family life and have a large number of children. They enjoy the comfortable warmth of their small houses, wher e they like to meet with friends, singing, dancing and merrymaking. But they also don't mind spending the evening in a pub or tavern. The gnomes show no preference for a certain religion nor are they fervent followers of a particular alignment. They tend to be very practical people taking life as it comes and acting acccording to the current circumstances.

The native land of the gnomes is found in the hills and mountains of Tikol Island. From old times their ancestors have scourged the hills and mountains and extracted all kind of ores . So their traditional profession has been the mining. But already early on some of them specialized in metalworking and smithing. Selling their armour and weapons all over Lensmoor brought in enough riches to build the impressive town of Dronlek. They still are masters in these occupations today but quite a few of them have turned to finer crafts. Gnomes have a passion for mechanical devices and will spend long hours with tinkering and constructing progressively more complicated gadgets. Their physique and the physical exercise in the metalworking professions have made some of them to very respected warriors in the lands. Although not very agile, their sturdiness and resilience and their mastery with the axe let them rival any foe. A third group of the gnomes has been attracted by the arcane arts. Taught originally by the sidhes there are quite a few sorcerers and conjurers to be found in their rows and only few races can match their knowledge of the magic universe.

With their good-naturedness the gnomes tend to get along with all Lensmoorian races. Although humans and gnomes have traveled together and traded since ancient times, the humans are not their best friends There have been too many jokes in the human community targeting the 'little folks' for the gnomes to feel all comfortable in the pre sence of humans.

Their native land being close to Tikol Valley and Lorell Woods the gnomes have had a special relationship with the sidhes and sprites as long as anyone remembers. All three races have been profiting from these ties a lot, the gnomes sharing their armor and crafts knowledge with the magical races and those teaching their magic to the little folks.

Old ents and gnomes like to chat and exchange the wisdom they have gathered in their long lives. However, they seldom work or fight together as the smithing activities of the gnomes as well as their attacking axe easily hurt the Entian companions. Similar is their relationship with the quicklings. Seeing them talking and gesticulating it is sometimes hard to say who is quickling and who is gnome but it is nearly impossible for a gnome to keep the pace of a quickling when traveling. The gnomes enjoy the company of the haikjadeam and may it be just for the reason that both races feel slighted by the humans. Although they tend to shake their heads over the matriarchal society of the haiks they love to visit them in their warm homeland as long as they are sure it doesn't rain too much. Although there are no hostilities the gnomes stay away from Gelion Cove and the selkies as from everything related to water. This may be based on the threat water has always presented to their mining activities. In stark contrast to their good-naturedness and easy going the gnomes share a deep hatred for all Antrippan races especially the xorrtos. This seems to be rooted far deeper than in other Lensmoorian races , probabbly due to the fact that a sizable number of the gnomes have been abducted to Zerinnth where they work as enslaved crafters and artisans.
